There is something almost quaint about how loudly intelligence is now performed. We announce it early, decorate it publicly, and defend it aggressively. The modern world does not merely reward being intelligent; it rewards being seen to be intelligent, preferably in real time and preferably with witnesses. Speed has replaced depth. Confidence has replaced accuracy. The signal has overtaken the substance.
